History of the institute
In response to the cultural needs and in line with the development and enhancement of the common taste and interest in the field of visual and audio media, on the 22nd of Day based on meeting 296, in order to prevent cultural invasions, and enhance the common cultural level, the supreme council of cultural revolution assigned the ministry of culture and Islamic guidance to lift the ban on video related activity, and assigned it to design and implement audio and video activity, such as the production and distribution of video programs, and the selling or renting of video and audio tapes.
In follow to this article, the institute of visual media initiated its activities as soon as it was possible. In the year 2000, this institute was the sole centre legally allowed to conduct such activities, and now is the biggest among the many other institutes conducting similar activities.
Objectives of the institute
To expand and develop the home-entertainment industry and the use of visual and audio media and various multimedia products with respect to up-to-date technology. This is done by the preparation, production, and supply of desired programs which consist of foreign and domestic resources, the replication and distribution of those programs via the creation of a distribution network, the import of equipment and technical know-how for all the required forms of media, and the support and financial aiding of cinema and Audio/video activity within the framework of objectives and policies of the department of cinema and audio/video affairs of the ministry of Culture and Islamic guidance.
Responsibilities of the institute
Based on the institute’s articles of association the field of activity is as follows:
1. The implementation of cultural and research projects in the field of using Audio and video media
2. The provision of all services in the field of supply and distribution of video and multimedia programs
3. The provision of services in the field of supply, replication, and distribution of video and multimedia programs
4. The provision of services in the field of importing of video and multimedia programs
5. The buying and selling of video and multimedia programs in any form, such as; buying, dealing, exchanging and etc…
6. Buying, importing, and distributing all products and equipment related to visual and audio resources, including computer equipment, to the country
7. The provision of technical services in the field of establishing and setting up of; visual media, the centers for production, distribution and supply of home-entertainment and multimedia products
8. Foundation building in the field of development and improvement of the home-entertainment and multimedia industry in country
9. Acquiring representation from foreign and domestic companies and institutes in the field of home-entertainment and multimedia products
10. Cooperation, support, and partnership with the private sector in the field of home-entertainment and multimedia
11. The completion and implementation all domestic and foreign activity which is effective, both directly and indirectly, in accomplishing the above mentioned aims and responsibilities
